 Preparation
If you are going to finance your home Go get pre qualified. I know that we just want to jump in with both feet and start designing your dream home, but even Bill Gates has a budget, and we need to set one. I'm not trying to say what you can and can't afford to build, we'll design you what ever you want, but it doesn't do you any good to design a home that you can't build. Building prices have come down some, but keep in mind that labor, impact fees, and energy prices keep rising, you’re not going to be able to get a home built for 2001 prices no matter how bad the economy is.
You probably have a good idea of what you want (or else you wouldn’t be at this point).
Decide what you need: # of bedrooms, garage, formal dining, family room.
How many square feet do you need?
Where are you going to put this house?
Form a game plan and discuss it with your family so that everyone is on the same page. I don’t know how many times I’ve met with folks that know they want to build a house but when we sit down to plan it out, find that they have completely different ideas. Sure I can give you my ideas, input, tell you if your idea is do able and steer you away from making big mistakes, but ultimately it’s your home and you’re the one that lives in it.

The Plans:
 1. Call me at (928) 580-4226 or email me jclarkson@desertdrafting.com to arrange a meeting. 2. The meeting, bring your ideas, the more information that we can get the better. We have some plans that could be altered, and books to pick ideas from. If we can’t physically get together than there is e-mail or regular mail, we did a plan for a remodel house in Huntington Beach, CA. with out leaving our office, except going to the post office to mail physical plans. 3. For the meeting we have a 3 page sheet of questions, from roof overhangs to which side does the washer go to the dryer. 4. A few days after the meeting I’ll either e-mail or fax you a rough floor plan, elevation, & Standard Movie for you to go over, alter (if needed) and approve. 5. We wait, nothing will go any farther till we have a soild floor plan that you approve of. This is the core, everything about the home is based off of this plan. 6. Shortly after the floor plan & elevation are approved, I’ll e-mail or fax a rough electrical plan, for altering and approval. The reason for this is that just about everyone has a different idea on how they would like the lighting, switches, and outlets in their home. This is your chance to make it just the way you want it. 7. We finish the plans. 8. Turn over plans and receiving final payment. | It's all very simple. |
If you’re and individual that is looking for a builder then we can refer you to several. If you’re looking to build as an owner builder than we can refer you to several sub contractors. If you want to build it your self and just need a little consultation done, then we can help you with that.
One of the things you'll have to decide on is the exterior look of the house. (Elevation)
This section was made to show all of the different exterior looks with just 1 floor plan. Anymore it seems that the exterior look has gotten more important then ever before, you can decorate the interior any way that you like, but a 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, home is still a 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, home. Sure there are different ways to arrange the rooms and their size, but mostly you want to arrange them to get the look you want on the exterior combined with what works best for you in your home.Click on the pictures below to get a better view.
All 10 of these pictures are using the same 2-story floor plan, with 7 different Elevations, 3 of which are the same but with stone added.
