For most, a home is going to be the biggest investment of their lives. It needs to be done right, and starting with an exceptional plan is the first step.

Together, we can design the perfect home to fit your needs, is structurally sound, and within budget. Sure just about anyone can draw a plan but hardly anyone has the building and design experience that I have.
Don’t leave this big of investment to just anyone.


Service: 
We try to make plans that are easy to read, too much information, can just be confusing. Not enough and you don’t get what you want. I’ve had plans for multi million dollar homes that specified everything right down to the color of paint on every individual wall, and if that’s what is need then we can do that. But I like my plans to be left open so that the owner & builder can work together to make those type of decisions as the project evolves.

Plans:
You will get (1) complete set of 36" X 24” drawings plus a PDF set of plans. The County has been requiring (3) for permits, and the City requires (2) for permits. So why do we give you only (1)? Because you'll probably need about (8-12) sets total, to pass out to subs for bids & building, that's just going to depend on the owner & builder. If they want to hand a plan to everyone they see then they might need a bunch of copies. We can make you as many sets as you want for an additional fee.

Building permits:
We have copies of both the city & county building permit applications on hand. You will also need (2) copies of Truss calcs. to submit with the application, in order to get your permit. For an additional fee we can take care of all of that, you just pick up and pay for the permit when it’s ready.

3D CGI Modeling:
Most of the picture on this site are CGI (Computer Generated Images). They're not needed to build or get building permits, it’s a tool to help owners see and change, before building and realizing that what’s on paper doesn’t look like what they thought it would in their mind. CGI models can be done at any place, angle, or height, interior or exterior. We use 3d CGI models for setting up roofs and making sure that everything goes together the way that we expect it to. A Standard exterior & interior orbit video is done during the planning stage free of charge. Which makes today’s planning much easier than in the past.

When I was Building:
There were times when the plans just wouldn’t work, I would call the draftsman/architect, and most of them acted like I was the biggest idiot & wasting their time, not that they had any answers, if things didn’t work it was always somebody else’s fault, never their's. So I learn quickly not to bother with them, (they didn’t help anyway). I‘m not that way, I make a few mistake, but if there is a problem or question I would rather you call me and if need be I'll make a trip out to the job site to help figure something out.  These homes reflect me and my work as much as they do the persons that hired me to design & draft them.

In my 18 years or field experience I have built numerous homes and worked with many sets of plans and at times thought, "How do they expect to make this work? I'd like to have someone draw me a plan that has construction experience and understands what will and what won't work". What works on paper doesn't always work in the real world.
So I started Desert Drafting LLC knowing that my experience and understanding of construction makes my drawings far better.

 

Prior to Desert Drafting LLC:
1 1/2 Years, I drafted plans and was project manager for Sierra Ridge subdivision, located in the Yuma Foothills for Spartan Homes & Construction Inc.

5 years, I spent building for Spartan Homes & Construction Inc., building mostly in the Yuma Foothills and on the Yuma Mesa, with a small amount of building in San Luis and Somerton. 

6 years, I ran the framing crew & did trim for Sundown and Associates, building in Mesa del Sol, The Dunes, on the Yuma Mesa, and numerous other homes through out Yuma.

5 years,  I framed for Cameo Development, building Sheffield Estates I & II, and Country Meadows I & II.

1 year,  I worked for Trade Mark Construction, doing carpentry work on commercial structures, mostly government.

On July 4th, 1987 at age 19 I moved to Yuma, Arizona from Lincoln, Nebraska. I just couldn't stand the thought of doing framing or any type of construction in the snow. The first project in Yuma that I worked on was what is now known as Burger King / Shell, on Fortuna Road, before that it was Sunshine / Hardee's. Back then the Foothills and Yuma for that matter were so small.

The Spring / Summer of 87 I spent framing in Lincoln.

I have my Associates of Applied Science degree from SCC in Building Construction Technology.
